I'm Moving!

Add caption
A person who has 3 blogs said, "Really? Three blogs? Why? How do you manage all of those blogs? How do you keep up?"

That person is me. I have 3 blogs and things are crazy. I can't write witty or brilliant or informational posts for all 3 and do a good job at it. I can however, run out of time, ignore certain blogs due to other deadlines, post lackluster tidbits, or spend time fretting about not having time to keep all 3 flowing well.

To remedy this situation, I am moving and narrowing my blogs down to just one. Join me here.

I so enjoy getting to know you and sharing my life with you. Please head on over to my new (old) landing spot so we can keep in touch. My new (old) blog is a work in progress just as my other 2 blogs have been, but I am steadily making improvements and sprucing up the old pad.

Thanks so much for your support over the years. See you at my new (old) home. I'll put on the tea and we'll have a chat.

See you at my new blog home.

STRIPES - Hugh's Weekly Photo Challenge: Week 9 - Stripes

Stripes of a vertical kind.
Stripes horizontally composing a building.

Stripes fading away into the distance.
Nearly invisible stripes melting into skies of gray.

Stripes. Or vents, as 2-year-old Donavyn says.
Which, vents, are also stripes of hot or cool, depending on the season.

Stripes.

What is This?

We thought it was just a dogwood tree, though it acted nothing like the real dogwood trees I have planted elsewhere in the yard.

The leaves look right, the shape is right for a wild dogwood (that's what I'm calling it, as I don't know), it blooms differently from the other dogwoods, and it is a fast grower. This tree arrived at our home in a packet of other similarly scrawny and less-than-a-foot long sticks.

Now? It is covered on the south side by beautiful, orange red fruit balls. Nothing like dogwood fruit.

Perhaps it is not a dogwood after all, though it was labeled as such.

Any ideas?

The hiatus required for our household switchover for internet carriers was indeed a very long time. It's amazing how much one can depend on something that is totally invisible. Oh, we have plenty of cords, boxes, and a huge bill, but the actual internet is floating around like lint in a gnats' eye, unable to be seen by the naked eye.

You might be surprised, maybe alarmed, at what else has been going on since the pause in action.

I sliced the side tip from my left pointer finger. Perfect little scoop going into the second layer of skin, whoosh, and there it was, staring at me on the cutting board. Blood. Oh, the blood. Typing became an acrobatic and quite edit-intensive endeavor, first with a bandage-fat finger that tapped every key but the one I wanted, and then with more accuracy when using a smaller bandage, but less feeling in the remaining fingertip. Now I am finally down to a slowly closing gap and maybe permanently misshapen finger.

My handsome, though quite sick, grandson shared a strong nasty cold with me. He seems all better while Nana is still fighting a sinus infection.

Deadlines abound. This was one reason having no internet was quite helpful. I couldn't easily communicate with friends and co-workers, but I also wasn't distracted by every little message notification or opportunity to 'just for a quick minute' check my social media.

Fall-ish weather was much appreciated, though it is only September. The change is coming. Cool nights, shorter days, the beginnings of color. Autumn is a feast for this writer's soul. After our intensely hot and on-fire northwest summer with plenty of smoke-filled days and falling ash, I am completely ready for a cold, wet, and long winter.

The season of squash is upon us. It's time for some of my favorite recipes. I have indeed already visited a produce stand and filled a basket with spaghetti, butternut, and delicate squash. A few pumpkin varieties were ready, but I just can't quite get those yet. That would be kind of like seeing Christmas decorations in September. Oh, wait. I've seen them. Pumpkin time is coming, but not quite yet.

Have a wonderful day after Labor Day! Happy back-to-school!

A Day in the Life of Chaos

Chaos is a regular visitor at this home.

The office shows sings of impending implosion. Where did I put that paper I needed? How did I lose a pitch-fest business card? Why do the cats keep dive bombing piles of 'to be filed' items? I guess it would help if I didn't file projects on the floor.

Garden chores are pretty much done for the year other than harvesting produce. Even then, raspberries are taking a last place position, waiting, wilting, and dropping from the vines in sun-baked agony as I pursue other 'do-what-comes-first' responsibilities.

Laundry. Two people. Really? Amazing. Can't even blame the cats for that one. Other than fur-covered blankets.

Windows? I've never done windows. Why? Cute little handprints, nose smudges, finger swipes, kitty kisses. They will just reappear.

Meals and dishes. Again. Two. People. How in the world can we generate so many things needing a wash?

Internet on. Internet off. Repeat. It goes like that throughout the day.

Phone calls. Texts. Visits. Go there. Do that. Buy. Recycle. Put away. Prepare. Clean.

Play. Haul out the toys. Kiss the babies. Make a mess.

Write. Plan. Brainstorm. Write. Edit. Blog. Take photos. Post posts. Answer email. Blog. Wait for important replies. Take Notes.

Deadlines. Research.

Read. Review. Like. Repost.

With so much of my day taking place in virtual-land, why does my house look like a tornado named "Chaos" has visited?

I have never understood when people have complained about being bored. What is bored and who has time to be bored? There are so many wonderful, exciting, challenging things to do and adventures to go on - no room for boredom.

Peace. Be still.

This is the life I chose, the life I love.

Every single bit of the evidence of chaos inhabitation is worth it. Chaos of the sort I see means life. Pursuit. Expression. Fun. Creativity. Joy. Love.

I'll take a day in the life of chaos anytime.

Harvest Time ~ The Fruit of Vacation

It's full harvest time in the Yakima Valley. Farmers are reaping the rewards of hard work and blessings from the Lord. Families enjoy the abundant fruit and vegetables that fill farmers markets and produce sections of grocery stores. It is a good time to live in an agricultural area.

Just as the time comes for fruit to be harvested, when farmers and even untrained eyes can pretty accurately tell the best time to do so, there is a certain time for taking a break.

Vacation time is now for these two middle-aged bodies. We are going to spend some time relaxing and refreshing. This gift of time away from daily responsibilities is a gift from God, and one we do not take lightly, but with great thanksgiving.

I will be back to blogging after vacation, hopefully with tales and photos of some of our adventures.

Until then, enjoy your summer! I appreciate you being a part of my blogging family.

See you soon.

A Month of Thanks - November 28 - Rubber Stamps (& Hobbies)

Today, November 28, I am thankful for rubber stamps. And all things hobby.

I have several favorites when it comes to crafting and hobbies. Rubber stamping is at or near the top of the list. But I also enjoy

crocheting
water color painting
reading
decorating
baking
cooking
making pottery
photography
blogging
writing
sewing
eating (hey - that can count as a hobby, right?)
looking at Pinterest (yes, now I have to count this, since I spend so much time doing it)
thrifting
walking (I really need to move this one to the top of the list)

oh, I could go on and on,
but not enough hours in any given day
or year
for me to enjoy all of the
things I love to do

So, let's just say, hobbies are an excellent outlet for creativity.

And at Thanksgiving dinner, rubber stamps and a create station occupied three very energetic children after the eating-of-the-turkey was complete.
