Time Flies When You're Having Fun

Love locks at Chambers Bay Park
By Angie Quantrell @AngieQuantrell

It's true. Time flies. But not only when you are having fun - though those particular minutes, hours, and days seem to sleep more easily through our fingers.

I've found that time. Just. Flies.

For instance, my honey was on vacation last week. There were just not enough hours in the day! We . . .

We had a wonderful time. I think maybe they were embarassed by us!

- traveled to see my cousin in the Tacoma area where we ate, hiked, visited, walked, sipped coffee, ate some more, and watched exploding fireworks

- shopped for an RV trailer as a part of our long term plan to build our own small home

- returned home and cleaned house with much attention given to fine detail

On the first hike we got lost. This was our trick for choosing the correct path on the next hike.
- decluttered, packed boxes, moved furniture, and prepared our home for sale

- shopped again for an RV trailer - and purchased a lovely used model that we pick up on Saturday where we will attend a class on how to make everything work

- washed windows and removed cobwebs

- spackled and touched up painted walls

- filled the garage with boxes, bags, and large items for storage and donation

Titlow Beach at low tide
- spent hours talking on the phone with various service providers and business people, asking questions and learning the ropes about selling and building homes

- and finally, put our home on the market

We are exhausted!

The above schedule did not allow time for reading email, blogging, writing, or any other creative endeavor. I barely had time for grocery shopping, but we were getting hungry and I had to cave and make the trip.

The fun continues tomorrow. The gray girls and I are banished for 4 hours while realtors visit and walk through our home. I think Monet, Mabel, and I will visit some grands. Won't that just make their day fantastic? The grands will love it. The cats, not so much.

Oh, friends, I could have used you. At the least we could have stopped for a bit and sipped a cup of tea. Rest and relaxation. Do consider a visit soon so we can catch up. I may not have furniture, but I always have hot water and tea.

Can't Do It All

I know.

It's a shock. Sorry to disappoint my people. Sorry fans (both of you).

But I can't keep up! With my full time job, church, writing deadlines, Bible study, blogs, Facebook, friends, grandkids, parents, family, sleep...all of which I love.

Oh. Can't forget the husband and cat. (Did you notice? I DID leave out cleaning the house. Don't mind if I do.)

And for the fun things - rubber stamping, shopping, eating, cooking, reading, taking pictures, riding the motorcycle...Those are waaaaaayyyyyy down the list.

So forgive me if I miss a month or week or so in writing on my blogs. I want to. I have lists of what to write.

But first things first.

It will happen. One day.

And then maybe I will have 3 fans.

Aarrgghhhh

Where has the time gone? I can't believe my last post was in November. For crying out loud. That is how my time has been going. At this rate, I will never unpack the boxes in the garage, which have been in there since we moved into the new house...Granted, we did move in over one weekend. Before I know it, summer will be here and gone. And I'll be back in school.

I'm already a Nana. It seems like yesterday that I was a mommy. And before that, a honey. And previous to that, daughter. And earlier, a gleam in my daddy's eye.

My time flies.

The Quandry of Time

How is it that time spent doing paperwork and dishes and cleaning and waiting for exciting events stretches, at times, into agonizingly long chunks? While those other times, the cool times, like recess and lunch and sleep and vacation zip by as fast as a glimpse of lightning. Just wondering, if perhaps, time flows that way for anyone else.

Back in the old days, a younger me,
Carefree and filled with exuberance;
Long summer days played out
Unending joy, imaginative adventures
Horses and friends,
Ice cream and books,
Travels and family,
The summer kept on, hot, dry, windy.
Time to do everything,
Or nothing.
School loomed speck-like on the distant horizon
Learning a faraway adversary.
Ah, sweet summer, and endless days
Filled with simple joy.

but now...

The graying of me, the faster time goes.
Summer vacation's a blur and a blip.
Lists numerous, jobs to do,
That fast old clock ticks double sometimes triple time,
And the space in between the things to get done is
Shorter
Than ever before.
The lists stay as long, the days fly by fast,
Bedtime rolls around before much is done,
The eyelids fall shut on the book.

Then BEEP. click.
Time to get up. Start over again.
Tackle the day, ever shortening day,
The clock moving steady and quick.

At the end of the week, work's still to be done.
Never a rest, or time just to be,
Not time to do everything,
Or nothing.

Picture the clock
Of life
Instead of winding up and keeping true time,
Not going slower at all.
But the watch ever tightens and turns
It's spin of each day
Hurtling faster and faster
Stealing the still moments of time.

Will it always be so?
Less time and more to do

A grand task -
Cut out the fluff
Keep the good things
Time to do everything
Or nothing
